The Chair of Cuban Culture Alejo Carpentier of the University of Santiago de Compostela, currently integrated into the Vice President for Institutional Relations, and previously at the Culture and Research, was founded in 1994 under a bilateral agreement with the University of La Havana (Cuba) and its Faculty of Arts and Letters. The bilateral agreement has been renewed successively in the years 2000 and 2007. The Chair maintains contact with other cultural and academic institutions in Cuba through the University of La Havana: the ISA (University of the Arts), the Alejo Carpentier Foundation, the Chair Alejo Carpentier, the Institute of Literature and Liguistics Joseph A. Portuondo, the ICAIC (Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Arts and Industry), the National Library José Martí, among others.
The main purpose of the Chair is to promote and disseminate the most genuine Cuban culture in the fields of the Humanities and Social Sciences.
