ConCiencia - Program of Scientific Popularization 2007

Once again this year Santiago welcomes a host of famous personalities with great scientific significance from around the world.

Experts and figures of great scientific significance, including several Nobel Prize winners, will be in the city during October and November. These will include

Frank Wilczek
Peter D. Lax
John F. Nash Jr.
John E. Walker

After the great success last year the Consortium of Santiago organizes again in collaboration with the University a new edition of the Scientific Popularization Programme "ConCiencia". The main organizing innovation this year is the location and timetable of the main events, since in this edition these will take place in premises outside the university campus and at more accessible times  (around 20:00 p.m.), to favour the participation of the public in general.

Among the objectives of the Conciencia initiative, three key points are:

1. Popularization of science by world-class scientists.
2. Projecting the image of Santiago de Compostela as a focal point of intellectual activity.
3. Promoting contacts between these top scientists and researchers of the USC.

These objectives make the ConCiencia programme different from any other initiative of scientific popularization: apart from a public lecture or specific event, it aims at taking advantage of the visit of the invited scientist, favoring his/her contact with local specialists
