Certificates and Validations

In Activities Related to the whole USC

In accordance with the regulation UNE-EN-ISO 9001, a series of processes in the Academic Area, including the Service of Academic Management and the Service of Academic Management and Programming, have been certified. In the Service of Academic Management the following processes have been certified: management of admission and registration processes, delivery of certificates and qualifications, free choice and approval of activities, adaptations and validations, academic celebrations and certificates of official and USC degrees of First and Second cycle. In the Service of Academic Manaagement and Programming the following processes have been certified: free choice offer, implementation of a quota system, annual academic planning (development and approval of the PDA and the POD as well as the development of the academic offer) for official and USC degrees of First and Second Cycle.

In accordance with the regulation UNE-EN-ISO 14001, a series of processes in the Occupational Risk Prevention Service have been certified. These include the management of occupational risk prevention, staff health surveillance, occupational safety surveillance, storage, coordination and handling of toxic waste to the authorized manager and the surveillance and documental control of USC tools and devices with ionising radiation sources.

In Activities related to the Different Units of the USC

In accordance with the regulation UNE-EN-ISO 14001:1996, the Galicia Ceramics Institute has also certified research activities, development and innovation in ceramic materials, metal materials and industrial rocks as well as physico-chemical assays and the determination of physical properties in ceramic materials, metal materials and industrial rocks.

The Galician Ceramics Institute has implemented an Environmental Management system whose requirements are outlined in the European Union's EcoManagement and Audit Scheme (EMAS). Its activities are focused on research, development and innovation in ceramic materials, metal materials and industrial rocks as well as of physico-chemical assays and the determination of physical properties in ceramic materials, metal materials and industrial rocks.

The Galician Ceramics Institute is accredited by ENAC for assays with ceramic materials of baked clay, in accordance to the criteria established in the regulation UNE-EN-ISO/IEC 17025.

The Department of Analytical Chemistry, Nutrition and Bromatology has accredited, in accordance with the criteria established in the regulation UNE-EN-ISO/IEC 17025, the Food Hygiene, Inspection and Control Laboratory for animal health waste analysis.

The Orthopaedics Institute and Musculoskeletal Tissue Bank, in collaboration with Zimmer, S.A., has created a management quality system in the section of production, marketing and distribution of tissue cultures in autologous somatic cells for human cell therapy.

The Institute of Food Research and Analyisis has certified, in accordance with the regulation UNE-EN-ISO 9001:2000, the Laboratory of Microbiology for the analysis of: surface water devoted to the production of drinking water, drinking water and underground water (wells and springs) for public use, bottled water, bathing and swimming pool water, sea water, waste water and other types of waters.

The Laboratories of Environmental Engineering and Bioprocesses and Environmental Technology of the Institute of Technological Investigations; the Laboratory of Environmental Physical Chemistry of the Faculty of Chemistry and the Laboratory of Analytical Chemistry of the Institute of Food Research and Analysis meet the requirements which allow the USC to obtain the Certificate of Suitability as Collaborating Company of the Organizations of Cuenca on the subject of waste water spill control, awarded by the General Direction of Hydraulic Works and Water Quality of the Ministry of Environment.

The Microbiology Laboratory, belonging to the Institute of Food Research and Analysis, renewed its license for water microbiological analysis, according to UNE-EN-ISO 9001:2000, and succeeded in expanding to microbiological analysis of food and clinical samples.

It was awarded to the "Encoro do Con" Hydrobiology Station, USC service which provides suitable facilities and resources for the study of continental aquatic ecosystems.
