Description
The Interdisciplinary Centre for Feminist Research and Gender Studies (CIFEX) represents a centre of interdisciplinary research framed within the context of the own centres of the University of Santiago de Compostela. The centre receives the express support of extra-university institutions and organizations which are considered of social political interest. It is a centre whose primary objective consists on (interdisciplinary) research, teaching, education and advising on specific issues dealing with women and men's relationhips and social roles; that is to say, gender relationships placed in an empirical level within the specific context of the Autonomous Region of Galicia.
Objectives:
With regard to the objectives, we agree with the central idea of the need for The Interdisciplinary Centre of Feminist Research and Gender Studies to constitute, in a global way, an own centre for research. This centre will coordinate all research and teaching projects and tasks dealing with the issues of gender relationships and of women. In fact, it mainly aims at the elaboration and dissemination of scientific knowledge concerning gender relationships and women, from multiple scientific perspectives, and from a poly-paradigmatic angle, anchored in the specific socio-cultural context where the University of Santiago de Compostela is framed; but with the strong conviction that this knowledge is essential for the social development of the current society, especially the Galician one.
Starting from this global objective, we focus on the following specific objectives:
- The research of gender relationships and roles and of women, especially from the point of view of the social importance, and particularly with a view to educational, psychological, social, historical, linguistic, philosophical, biological, medical and legal knowledge, among others. The Interdisciplinary Centre for Feminist Research and Gender Studies acts as a unifying centre providing the maximum coordination.
- The promotion, organization and specific teaching, either in the first or second and third university cycle (even in the fourth cycle, if applicable), regarding the knowledge of gender relationships and roles and of women, mainly from an interdisciplinary point of view. The Interdisciplinary Centre for Feminist Research and Gender Studies is understood here as the basic core of coordination.
- The social and political dissemination of knowledge concerning the knowledge of gender relationships and roles and of women. Likewise from an interdisciplinary point of view, in order to fulfill the objective of achieving social feedback regarding the knowledge about gender relationships and roles and of women.
- The general and specific organization from The Interdisciplinary Centre for Feminist Research and Gender Studies of all kind of scientific activities with scientific, social, and political impact; such as scientific congresses, symposiums, seminars, postgraduate courses, master programs, doctorate programs, summer courses, etc. of national and international scope. This objective very particularly contemplates the work of social collaboration and of edition and publication of periodical journals or monographs and reports of activities.
- To promote actively from The Interdisciplinary Centre for Feminist Research and Gender Studies the deep knowledge of the processes of social transformations generated in our society; regarding both social and scientific structures. The aim is to achieve a higher equality in the relationships between women and men, and a change of the scientific and social image of women; connecting with the international and European recommendations and rules on the subject.
