The Centre for Historical and Cultural Studies of the City was established with the aim of studying the particular aspects of the urban historical phenomena across different time periods, but particularly focusing on the most primitive periods, with a preference for the Roman period. The Centre was not in vain placed in the city of Lugo, a paradigm in urban evolution among Galician cities. This is the Centre´s main line of study in which its director and his team have been working on for decades.
Town planning also deals with the study of the historical road network which joint cities in the past. Among other plans, this is the main aim in which some of the research teams of the Centre are involved. Particularly, a thick volume entitled "Miliarios e outras inscricións viarias do Noroeste Peninsular (Conventos Bracarense, Lucense e Asturicense)", written by A. Rodríguez Colmenero, Santiago Ferrer Sierra and Rubén Álvarez Asorey, elaborated with the logistic support of this institution, has just been published by the Galician Culture Council.
Other activities carried out at the Centre, very few to date, are conference cycles, scientific trips, work meetings...among others.
Once we have refurbished our office, we will renew the posts and more ambitious aims will be established.
