The Computer Science Institute is a centre of research and scientific and technical development, of teaching, specialization, application, divulgation and provision of services related to Computer Science and its multiple expressions within the field of Information Technology.
It comprises different research groups of the University of Santiago de Compostela. These groups are specialized in several fields of computer Science and Information Technologies, both software and hardware. Within the framework of the Institute these groups can suggest the implementation of joint projects and works and share the infrastructure for its development.
The aims of the Institute may be grouped as scientific, technological and teaching objectives. Among the scientific objectives, the primary one is to promote the coordination of the different groups of the University of Santiago de Compostela who are doing research, preferably, on aspects related to Computer Science and Information Technologies. The aim is to make research activities as profitable and effective as possible.
Results of research projects must have an influence on society through their publication in scientific magazines and conferences and through patents and transference of the products developed by the University (technological aims).
The teaching objectives are presented as complementary to those provided by the different University departments, basically through Third Cycle courses and other courses leading to the specialization of researchers in interdisciplinary areas. The continuing education of professionals is another objective and, therefore, the Institute will offer courses and short courses either at their own initiative or at the request of public and private entities.
