Certificate of Italian as a Foreign Language

Since February 13, 2007, the CLM of USC has been the examination center in Galicia for the CILS exams of the Università per Stranieri di Siena for Italian as a foreign language. The Università per Stranieri di Siena is one of the Italian state universities authorized by law for the teaching of Italian to foreigners and for the obtaining of official diplomas of Italian as a second language.

The CILS (Certificazione di Italiano come lingua straniera) is the offical diploma and it encompasses 6 different levels, according to the Common European Framework of Reference of the Council of Europe.

During this academic year, interested persons may take the exams CILS UNO-B1 and DUE-B2 at the Modern Language Centre of USC. The date of the exam is established by the Università per Stranieri di Siena and is immovable.

Contents of the Exam:

At the web page of the Università per Stranieri di Siena, (www.unistrasi.it) applicants can consult the manual “Le Linee guida CILS” where they will find a detailed description of the contents of each one of the exam levels. At the same web page, candidates may also find past exams with the corresponding keys and corrrection criteria. 
 
RULES FOR TEST DAY:
  • It is essential to present a DNI or Drivers License on test day.
  • Only black pens are permitted.
  • It is prohibited to use white-out or similar correction methods.

EXAM RESULTS:

Beginning in the second half of September, the results can be consulted at the web page for the Universtà per Stranieri di Siena  using the enrollment number  provided during the day of the exam. If the exam has been passed, the certificates are normally mailed at the beginning of November.

Enrollment Rules:

 

1. Requirements:

Be 16 years of age. Not have Italian nationality. In the case of being a child of an emigrant, it will be necessary to not have lived in Italy as a resident. In order to accredit this last requisite, it will be necessary to attach an official declaration. 

 
2. Necessary Documentation:
  • Photocopy of D.N.I. or of passport (essential.) It is necessary that the face the D.N.I. is the same as that of the photocopy.

  • Receipt of payment at Novagalicia Bank, printed on the 48/2 form of USC. This form can be asked for personally at office of the CLM, or through e-mail at the address: clm@usc.es (Title: examen CILS). If candidates are unable to visit the Modern Language Centre (CLM) of USC, we will send the aforementioned form through postal mail to interested applicants.
 
3. Exam Payment:
Payment for the exam must be done within the period (March 4th to April 5th 2013) in whatever branch of Novagalicia Bank, on the document 48/2 of USC. The 48/2 form consists of 4 copies. Two copies will stay with the bank. One is to be delivered to the CLM to formalize enrollment, and the other is for the applicant to keep as a receipt. On the 48/2 document, the entirety of the DATOS PERSONALES should be filled-in. On the part that says MOTIVO DE INGRESO, interested persons should mark the box corresponding to the Centro de Linguas Modernas. On name of the course, applicants must indicate EXAMEN CILS level UNO-B1 or DUE-B2 according to whichever exam they wish to take.
Payment of multiple candidates on the same 48/2 form will not be accepted as every candidate must pay with their own form and be prepared to show an individual receipt of payment.
For the level UNO-B1, the price is 115€ (90.00€ + 25.00€, charge of USC for administrative fees).
For the level DUE-B2, the price is 130,00 € (105,00€ + 25,00 € charge of USC for administrative fees).
The Università per Stranieri di Siena will not provide a return of payment in any case of enrollment, including situations when a candidate cannot attend the exam for justified reasons. In this case, the candidate will be able to take the exam the following year as long as they can accredit their previous absence (with the approval of the Università per Stranieri di Siena) and pay 10.00 euros at the time of the new enrollment.  
 
4. Enrollment Formalization:
Once payment has been confirmed at Novagalicia Banco, the documentation can be delivered personally to the Negociado del Centro de Linguas Modernas or also through postal mail to the Negociado do Centro de Linguas Modernas (Negociado do CLM. Casa dos Catedráticos. Avda. das Ciencias s/n 1ºC. Campus Vida. 15782 Santiago de Compostela). Payment receipts will only be accepted during the enrollment period.
