Advice to write a good curriculum vitae
- Use good quality paper, DIN-A4 size, only on one side. Use white paper or gentle colours like blue, yellow...
- It must be brief and clear, with a maximum extension of 2 pages.
- Write it always on the computer (unless you are specifically requested to submit a handwritten one). It must be printed in good quality. Always provide originals, never photocopies.
- The curriculum is not your biography. The information must be arranged in an organized manner, distributed into sections.
- Font types and sizes must facilitate reading.
- Use bold, italics or underlined letters in order to highlight the most relevant aspects.
- Use simple and understandable terms, but without losing the formality required by the document.
- Avoid writing the curriculum in first or third person: do not say "I did /he or she did internships in..." but "internships completed in..."
- Use positive words and action verbs that show an active attitude and with initiative.
- Be careful with the spelling. You must check your CV once it is finished, looking for spelling mistakes.
Very important...
- There are not two equal curricula. The curriculum is a flexible and dynamic document which adapts to the job offer or to the company to which it is going to be submitted.
- It must be constantly updated.
- You must not lie, but you can omit data which could harm or detract from the curriculum. You must include information which show a possitive image of you and fits the required profile.
