First steps
- Start a personal and professional self-analysis to help you define your professional aims: list your knowledge and education, experiences (personal and working, if any), competences, abilities, aptitudes, hopes and personal and professional objectives.
- Write a general Curriculum Vitae (CV) including all your studies and academic activities, internships and/or professional experiences, volunteering, other activities and jobs, although they are not related to the studies...undertaken up to now, in an organized way.
- Register yourself in the Public Employment Agency (INEM) as "job seeker" and include C.V. information into the Employment Galician Service. (Public service, dependent on the Public Employment Agency, which acts as intermediary with the companies for the management of job offers).
- Read the daily press, employment supplements, specialized press or magazines, bulletins, notice boards
- Consult the "employment portals", where you can find job offers, advice to search for a job, companies directory, courses and training and professional recycling centres and much other interesting labour information.
- Know the resources of your environment which can offer you information about the labour market of your area of professional interest.
- Contact your Professional Association (advantages of being a member of the professional association, services offered: employment office, training, updated professional information, advice for unemployed people).
- Get information about the possibilities of beginning professionally through internships or scholarships for graduate students.
- Identify the companies or possible working places, and get information of their activity, organization, departments and projects, analysing your possibilities of incorporation...
- Get information about which are the most common access systems used by the different working centres (submission of CV by ordinary mail or personal delivery, introduction of data or job applications in the website of the company, public calls, adverts in the press...).
- Identify your needs for supplementary training from the analysis of the requirements for the positions that you get to know and are interested in.
- Know the different types of training you can gain access to and consult the various training offer.
- Go to the Occupational Guidance Area - (SAEE) of the USC. You can find an office in both the two Campuses (Compostela and Lugo) to request an orientation interview and/or get information.
