Description

Our Hall is located at the North Campus, about 500 metres from the historical centre. In the surrounding area we find the faculties of Philology, Economics and Business Administration, and Communication Sciences, and also the Auditorium of Galicia.

The building occupies part of the so called "Burgo das Nacións" university complex, which was built provisionally in 1965 to provide shelter to the pilgrims coming to Compostela in that Holy Jacobean year. The residence hall was operated by the Spanish Tourist Administration and it soon reached the capacity of 4.000 vacancies distributed in 47 pavilions. Once the 1965 Jacobean year was finished, this set of buildings, built with light and ephemeral materials, covered deficiencies by providing housing for institutions that needed it: it was used as a postgraduate residence, as classrooms for several university specialties, as seat of the university printing office and university day nursery, as well as serving as office for the National Police etc. In 1979 the USC began to use the Burgo das Nacións as a mixed residence hall. The construction of the current building site began in the 1986-87 academic year and it ended in 1992-93.
