Description

In 1930 the architect from Vigo Jenaro de la Fuente Álvarez (1891-1963) developed the final draft of the project which began in 1919. This project consisted of five main buildings: a central pavilion, aimed at general services, and four more pavilions, which were situated around it and asigned to University residence halls.

The Civil war first and financial constraints later were responsible for the restructuration of the project. This also meant that the construction of its buildings were put on hold. Thus, from the original five-pavilion-design project, the buildings were reduced to three and the central pavilion was transformed into a University Residence Hall, which is the current  Fonseca hall. Its construction began later than the other two buildings, being inaugurated in 1963. Like the other halls of residence, the Fonseca hall offers its residents not only accommodation but also a series of activities to encourage and complete their academic, cultural and sport training.

The current Fonseca hall combines ancient tradition with modern facilities. Its location in the heart of the South Campus makes it a privileged place as it is well connected with the rest of the city by urban buses
