Regional Development and Economic Integration

Registration Access

    Master in Regional Development and Economic Integration.
    • Speciality in Regional Development.
    • Speciality in Economic Integration.
    PhD Degree of the University of Santiago de Compostela.
  2. Prospective Students
    Students of Economics or Business Administration and Management.
    Students of other degrees. These students have to study the credits corresponding to the preparatory module (it consists on subjects taught during the first four month period with a personalized programme of study and directed work).

  5. Aims
    To facilitate that students obtain an advanced economic formation, providing them knowledge, tools and methods typical of the modern economy that allow them:  
    • To diagnose and analyse economic problems successfully.
    • To develop complex professional activities, both in companies and in other public or private institutions.
    • For those wanting to focus on research, to have a solid basis (from the methodological, theoretical perspective and of knowledge of historical experiences) to start their research career.
    To complement the academic knowledge with their practical application in agencies, companies, institutions, and research groups that collaborate in this POP. All this with the aim of training specialist capable of analyse the complex processes of economic integration and regional development, the commercial politics and the role of local, national and international institutions.
  6. Teaching method
    Traditional classroom teaching.

    Galician, Spanish and English (depending on the subjects).
  8. Field of knowledge
    Social and Legal Sciences.
  9. Course structure
    Students have to complete 120 ECTS credits, of which 75% belong to theoretical- practical modules and the rest is distributed between the carrying out of training in companies, institutions and research groups and the carrying out of an end of master work.
    Preparatory module (for students without the degree of Economics or Business Administration and Management) (15 credits).
    • 1st COURSE (60 credits)
      Master Compulsory Modules:
      • International Economy (20 credits).
      • Economic and Human Development (20).
      • Econometrics (10).
      • Practicum (10).
    • 2nd COURSE (60 credits)
      Compulsory Modules of the Speciality:
      • Regional development (20).
      • Economic integration (20).

    Elective Module: - Elective (18).
    Compulsory Module: - Practicum (10).
    Compulsory Module: - End of master work (12).

    The end of master work, with an equivalence of 12 ECTS credits, will consist on the carrying out of a directed work related with the contents taught during the postgraduate course in the compulsory and/or elective modules.
    The practicum, with 20 ECTS credits, constitutes a basic complement for the student formation. Among the above mentioned 20 credits, 8 (216 hours) will be of practicum in companies, institutions or research groups.
  10. Admission and selection criteria
    MASTER:
    Access: To have a university degree, to have a Bachelor degree or to be Graduated, to have passed the credits of the 1st cycle of the current degree of first and second cycle or prove to have passed 180 credits of degree studies if these credits include the total amount of the common formative contents.
    Admissions: 30 vacancies are offered, 20 of them are kept for students of Economics and Business Administration and Management; 10 for students with other degrees; 10 para la cuota de extranjeros; y 10 plazas para los alumnos que realicen la titulación a tiempo parcial.
    Selection criteria: Academic Record.

    PhD Degree:
    1) Academic record and curriculum vitae (including, at least, a reference to professional experience and to command of foreign languages).
    2) Personal interview.
    To have studied the master in Regional Development and Economic Integration will be considered as a relevant merit because of its close relation with the research lines offered for the PhD Degree.
  11. Career opportunities
    This POP trains high level specialist to develop professional career both in the public and the private sector, in activities such as:
    • Design and management of business models of sustainable development.
    • Advising to companies and other institutions about foreign trade, markets and external investment.
    • Design of tools of productivity and competitiveness improvement.
    • Planning of technological innovation processes.
    • Elaboration processing of projects applications and aid to development programmes.
    • Organization, promotion and strategies management or creative action programmes of local development.
    • Design, promotion and management of equality politics.
    Thus, it is allowed the access to both a wide variety of work positions in institutions, agencies and companies devoted to the regional and local development and in international, inter-regional ( bordering and cross-bordering, such as Galicia) or national institutions interested in the fields of development, integration and cooperation.
    Its double orientation (academic-professional and research) also allows to choose a formation basically or a researching character and serving as a starting point for the continuation of the PhD Degree studies and, maybe, becoming future researchers in public and private centres of research in social sciences.
