The Computer Science Institute is a centre which promotes the following activities: research, scientific, technical development and teaching, specialization, application, divulgation and offering of services related to Computer Science and its multiple applications within the field of Information Technology

It comprises different research groups of the University of Santiago de Compotela. These groups are specialized in several fields of computer Science and Information Technologies, both software and hardware. The institute also proposes research projects and shares the infrastructure for their development. The aims of the Computer Science Institute may be grouped as scientific, technological and teaching objectives.
