The Laboratory for Radiologic Image Research was established in 1987 by Professors from the Departments of Radiology and Electronics and Computer Science of the University of Santiago de Compostela. The main interest of research in the Laboratory is the improvement of diagnostic accuracy of radiologic imaging.

The close interaction between physicists and radiologists has been very productive, publishing more than 50 articles in peer-reviewed journals and International meetings and more than 20 thesis, including Master of Science (MSc) and Doctoral (PhD) thesis, between 1987 and 1997. This work has been financed by more than 21 research projects, supported by FIS, Xunta de Galicia, University of Santiago, and Industry.

Currently, our research efforts are focussed in four major areas:

Computer and diagnosis (CAD).
Picture archiving and comunication system (PACS).
Interventional Radiology.

Our research facilities include digital image processing computer laboratory, film digitization laboratory, X-ray imaging laboratory and magnetic resonance laboratory.
