Workshops

19-21/6/2013 Scimitar and Discourse and Indentity are jointly organizing the Second Santiago de Compostela International Workshop on Discourse Analysis (IWODA'13), in collaboration with three partner groups from the Universidade da Coruña, Amergin, Clin and Muste. The main aim is to bring together scholars, researchers and students in order to explore and analyse discourse from multiple perspectives: theoretical and applied, quantitative and qualitative, linguistic and cognitive, psycho- and sociolinguistic, critical and literary, and cultural, filmic and semiotic.

García Varela, A. P. has been awarded a three-year postgraduate grant by the Xunta de Galicia (XUGA, Plan Galego de Investigación e Crecemento 2011-2015 (Plan I2C, DOGA 203, 24/10/2011). Her PhD advisors are M. Á. Gómez-González and M. T. Sánchez-Roura.

Iglesias Rábade, L. was the linguistic supervisor of M. Abel Souto's (coord.) Bilingual Legal Dictionary and Multilingual Legal Dictionary, both published in 2012.

Gonzálvez-García, F. was appointed member of the organising committee of the "First International Conference on Meaning and Knowledge Representation: LCM and FunGramKB" to be held in the Universidad Nacional a Distancia in Madrid on 4-6 july 2012.

Gonzálvez-García, F. is, since February 2012, member of the scientific committee of the Borealis, an International Journal of Spanish Linguistics.

Mackenzie, J. L. was awarded a Banco Santander fellowship to spend three months, from September to December 2012, in the Department of English at the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia, Madrid, Spain.

To honour Christopher S. Butler's exceptional contribution to SCIMITAR and to linguistics in general, Gómez González, M. Á, Gonzálvez García, F. and Ruiz de Mendoza, F. J. (Univ. of La Rioja) are currently preparing a Festschrift whose appearance is to coincide with Prof. Butler's 70th birthday.
