POLICY AND RULES FOR CONTRIBUTORS. Updated 15th April  for section 3d)

1. Editorial Policy    2. Article Submission   3. Refereeing, Acceptance and Publication

 1. Editorial Policy. AEID is a refereed and printed journal in English, included in Econ-Lit, SCOPUS, IBSS, SSRN and other selected indexes of Economics research. The emphasis is on economic development with and international and quantitative approach, and the main aim is to foster international cooperation to development. Some relevant criteria for the selection process of articles are the following ones:

1.a) Authors:  We have into account the academic and research background of authors, usually requiring a Doctorate degree in Economics and good knowledge of the subject. We welcome submissions from authors who accept the rules and have a positive attitude towards the journal.

1.b) Contents: Research relevant for economic development at international or national level, is highly valued, particularly those studies related with macro-econometric modeling, the role of demand and supply, human capital, social capital, investment, employment, trade and international cooperation. Applications of Econometrics to the analysis of other causal relationships may also be published. Priority is given to analysis of economic development in one or more big countries, or in several countries.

1.c) Data, conclusions and citation requirements: Tables and/or graphs with visibility of selected data are usually a requirement, as well as definition of variables, measurements units and sources. Citation of one of more interesting articles, related with the subject and/or with economic development in the country or area of the study, previously published in our journals, is usually required. We wish that our journals evolve through time as a set of related contributions for economic development and not as a set of isolated articles.

1.d) Limited submission to one article and one version: Authors should not send more than one article for refereeing until their last submitted article appears listed as accepted at the Status section of the journal website. In case of rejection there is a limit of submitting one or two articles per year. Authors should not send several non requested versions of the same article during the refereeing process although they may suggest some small corrections in the final version before the article goes to the printing.

1.e) Other publication options: Articles in English, related with one or more production sectors, at country level or in several regions within one or more countries, may be suited for our journal RSES and  articles on Latin America and OECD countries (in English or Spanish) may be submitted to our journal ESID/EEDI.

2. Article Submission

2.a) Article copy by e-mail: One copy in Word should be sent by e-mail, to the Editor Professor Maria-Carmen Guisan (mcarmen.guisan@usc.es), accompanied by a short Curriculum Vitae, CV, citing some previous publications of the author in relation with the subject, as well as institutional adscription, and reference to his/her Doctoral Dissertation (university, title, year, and supervisor). Submission implies that authors declare that the article is original, not previously published in another journal, nor submitted to other journal during the period of evaluation, and that they accept these rules including the Copyright Transfer Agreement. Pre-publication in working papers free series is admitted if it is reported in the submission mail.

2.b) Size and presentation: The copy should be written in Word, letter Times New Roman size 11, including the title and names of authors (family name in full capital letters).  Page size is 18 cm (centimeters) wide and 25 cm high, number of pages usually between 8 and 14 (besides may be an on line Annex). Do not send pdf copy because it will be prepared by the Editorial team. An Abstract of no more than 100 words should precede the article and present a clear idea of the main conclusions, methods and line of reasoning. Provide one or more JEL codes and a maximum of 5 keywords below the summary.  Manuscripts should be divided into sections usually with no more than five. Include tables and/or graphs, of data of the main variables, within the text (in Word format easy to modify, not as fixed scanned images).  Footnotes should be limited to a very small number. References are usually limited to a maximum of 2 pages and include some relevant articles previously published (preferably in English), listed alphabetically (for example Maddala,G.S.(1992),

2.c) Copyright: Submission implies that authors accept that they vest copyright in the Euro-American Association of Economic Development Studies, without limitations, although the Association authorizes them to publish their articles in the future, in books of collected works, if they mention that the article has been published in our journal, giving full reference of the journal name and web site. Other possibilities are subject to previous permission from the Association.

3.- Refereeing, Status and Publication

3.a) Acknowledgement of receipt and first evaluation: After submission authors will usually receive acknowledgement within one and three weeks, including a first evaluation. No acknowledgment in three weeks usually means that the article does not fulfill the requirements of section 1c: it does not include selected data nor references to any interesting article previously published in our journals on the same topic. In case of no reception of acknowledge authors may send a revised version including data visibility and proper citations. Articles with a positive first evaluation will be accepted for publication, if they reach enough priority, after the refereeing process, and if authors agree with the main suggestions for revision.

3.b) Refereeing, acceptances and Title:  Accepted articles, accordingly to priority criteria by the Editorial Board and the referees reports, usually are listed at the Status section  in the first update, after 3 months from submission, by the end of March, June, September and December. Authors may write to the Editor about the status if the article is not listed and they have not received a rejection letter from the Editor. Non acceptances usually do not imply a negative evaluation of the article but only not enough priority given the limitation in the number of pages that we can publish per year. Acceptances may be also announced in the News for authors section at the Blog of our Association which is updated more frequently than Status. Title may appear listed with changes, by the Editor´s suggestion, in order to provide more precision for readers, and it is assumed to be accepted by authors unless they suggest and agree another option with the Editor. At the Status section we indicate the issue where the articles are scheduled to be published, although a few changes may happen due to final rearrangements (in the number of pages or for other reasons).

3.c) Article on line and proofs correction:: The pdf version of the article will appear at the journal Website before the article goes to the printing. Authors may read the pdf version on line, with the keys that they have received with the message of acknowledge, and send a message to the editor, mcarmenguisan@usc.es,  with the word “proofs” in the subject, if the request some final corrections. The deadline for corrections is announced at the Status section and usually correspond to the end of May for articles of the first semester and to the end of October for articles to be published in the second semester of the year.

3.d) Payment of Fee and Printed Copy:  An accepted fee is not required if at least one author of the article belongs to a subscribed institution. In other cases each author is required to pay an acceptance fee of 45 Euros (more information will be announced in May of 2011).We usually send a free complimentary printed copy to authors who have paid the fee if they send a message to the Editor confirming payment and indicating their postal address for delivery. Fee discounts or waivers may be requested in case of authors from low income countries.

3.c) Institutional Subscription and open access: We very much appreciate if authors recommend subscription from their institutions, particularly those working in middle or high income countries and who have already published several articles in our journals. Institutional subscription is a great support for the journal and  it has some advantages for authors: they usually will receive one free complimentary copy of the Volume with their article and the articles will be open access, in order to increase visibility.

 Subscriptions.
