RULES FOR CONTRIBUTORS Updated April 15h, year 2011, section 3d
1. Editorial Policy 2. Article Submission 3. Refereeing and Publication
1. Editorial policy. RSES is a printed and refereed journal, included in Econ-Lit, SCOPUS. IBSS and other selected indexes, and focused to the analysis of regional development and the evolution of production sectors in Europe, America and other areas of the World, with particular interest in the role of human capital, social capital, industry, tourism, economic well-being and employment.
1a) Contents: Comparative studies by sector and/or at regional level within a country, or within a group of countries, are particularly welcome. Research on production sectors (agriculture, industry, building and services) in one particular region or country may be also published, particularly if they include an analysis of the evolution through time. The Editorial Board recommends more focus on economics relevance than on methodological contents. Econometric modelling is not required although it is also welcome if the main emphasis is on economics contents. Articles with other contents may be suited for other journals published by our Association.
1b) Data and citations: Clear definition of variables and data sources, as well as the presentation of some tables and/or graphs of the main variables is usually required for publication. Authors should show knowledge of interesting and related articles previously published in the journal, or in other publications, avoiding repetitions of methodology (it is enough to cite those studies).
1c) Conclusions: Present interesting, short and clear conclusions.
1d) Language: Currently RSES publish in English but this journal also admits some articles in the main Euro-American languages from Latin origin (Spanish, Portuguese, French and Italian), when at least one author belongs to a subscribed institution.
2. Article Submission
2a) Article copy by e-mail: One copy in Word should be sent by e-mail, to the Editor Professor M.Carmen Guisan, mcarmen.guisan@usc.es, accompanied by a short Curriculum Vitae, CV, citing some previous publications of the author in relation with the subject, as well as institutional or professional adscription and position, and reference to his/her Doctoral Dissertation (university, title or subject, year, and name of supervisor). Submission implies that authors declare that the article is original, not previously published in another journal, nor submitted to other journal during the period of evaluation, and that they accept these rules including the Copyright Transfer Agreement. Pre-publication in working papers free series is admitted.
2b) Contents, Size and presentation: The copy should be written in Word, preferable in letter Times New Roman size 11, including the title and names of authors (with family name in capital words to avoid confusions). Page size is A5 (approximately 14.5 cm wide and 21 cm high), article length should usually not exceed 20 pages, although some contents may be included in an on line Annex. Do not send pdf copy because it will be prepared by the Editorial team. An Abstract of no more than 100 words should precede the text of the article. Provide one or more JEL classification codes and a maximum of 5 keywords below the summary. Manuscripts should be divided into sections, usually with no more than five, and include tables and/or graphs of the main variables within the text (in format easy to modify if necessary, not as fixed scanned images). Footnotes should be limited to a very small number. References will be given by Name(year) and listed in alphabetical order, for example Maddala,G.S.(1992), and limited in number, usually not more than 2 or 3 pages. Excessive methodological explanations should be avoid: Authors may cite some complementary paper or article, with those details, or include them in an on line Annex.
2c) Copyright: Submission implies that authors accept that they vest copyright in the Euro-American Association of Economic Development Studies, without limitations, although the Association authorizes them to publish their articles in the future, in books of collected works, if they mention that the article has been published in our journal, giving full reference of the journal name and web site. Other possibilities are subject to previous permission from the Association.
3.- Refereeing Process, Selection and Publication.
3a)Acknowledgement receipt and refereeing process: After submission authors will receive acknowledgement, generally within two weeks and including a first evaluation. The Editorial Board has an active role to guarantee the quality and interest for real economics of published articles, as well as the line of evolution of the journal. Referees have also a complementary role to judge on the contribution of the paper in the corresponding field.
3b) Acceptance, status and communication: In case of acceptance, the article is expected to appear listed as forthcoming at the journal website, before 3 months after reception. In other cases authors may send a message to the Editor. Some rearrangements may produce some changes in the number of the Volume where each article is finally published. Full acceptance only will take place after authors agree with the suggestions by the Editorial Board and Referees, (including general suggestions for the title, annexes and size of the article which will appear in the pdf version of the article). Individual correspondence with authors is usually limited to first evaluation, particular suggestions for revisions or in case of rejection, in order to avoid overwhelming correspondence to the Editor.
3c) Pdf version at the Web: Authors should revise the provisional pdf file of their article, once it appears at the journal Web site and before printing, accordingly to the closing dates for correcting proofs announced at the Status page. Fee discounts or waivers may be requested in case of authors from low income countries.
3e) Dates of delivery of printed copies and disclaimer: Dates of delivery of printed copies to authors from subscribed institutions will usually be updated at the Status and/or Subscription sections of the journal website. We cannot guarantee punctuality and we cannot avoid some losses in delivery. In case of lost packages we will try to send another copy if it is possible and authors kindly request it.
