RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE EDITORIAL BOARD TO AUTHORS SUBMITTING ARTICLES TO OUR JOURNALS AEID AND RSES
This section tries to help authors to reach compliance with the main focus and priorities of our journals, and to avoid frequent shortcomings, or mistakes, which may lead to articles rejection. We suggest authors to read these recommendations before submission, in order to avoid delays in reviewing and loss of time for reviewers, and for authors waiting for reviewing, when we receive a lot of articles that do not fit to the main requirements for acceptance.
Recommendations to try to avoid mistakes, shortcomings and rejections:
1) Data. We recommend to read the main rules and provide good data, data visibility and clear definition of variables (for example if the figures are at constant prices, units of measurement, source of data). Authors should have skills enough to select data and manage real values, rates of growth and other calculations before submitting articles to academic journals. We expect to include here, in the next weeks, a link to some important definitions useful for quantitative studies of international comparisons.
2) Econometric Methodology: We recommend to read the article “Selected readings on Econometric Methodology”, free downloadable, published in Volumen 15-2 of our journal AEID. This interesting article highlights some important questions related with causality, the right interpretation of causality tests, the perils that generally present econometric models with a mix of rates, ratios, total values and per capita values, as variables, the effects of missing variables on the interpretation of a model and other important questions.
3) Related articles previously published: We recommend authors to read and cite some interesting articles, related with the topic of their study, previously published in our journals. Many authors write as if the contributions of other authors do not exist.
4) Some relation of the article contents with economic development and a wide view of economic development: We recommend authors to read interesting articles, as those listed below, or other ones, which provide a wide view of economic development from demand and supply sides, having into account the role of the many factors. There are many direct and indirect effects, and although not all the relevant variables are usually included in the study, we should be aware of the possible important effects of some of those factors when we interpret the results.
