Profesor Contratado Doctor

Former CiQUS member, 2011-2015

Antonio Sousa Pedrares (1973) graduated in Chemistry from the University of Santiago de Compostela in 1996. In 2001 he submitted his doctoral thesis entitled "Metal complexes derived from chelating ligands (N, X), X = S, Se," conducted under the supervision of Professor Antonio Sousa and Dr. Maria Luz Alonso Durán Carril. During this period he made several stays at foreign institutions specializing in the field of air-free synthetic techniques (University of Manchester, University of Oxford, Syracuse University, University of Liege). Also during this time he specialized in the field of x-ray diffraction under the supervision of Professor Robin Pritchard (University of Manchester). After receiving his PhD, he was hired by the University of Oxford for a project in collaboration with the company Amersham Pharmacia.

In 2003 he returned to the group of Professor Sousa Alonso as a "Parga Pondal" researcher with the aim of developing coordination compounds with potential interest in catalysis. Training in the field of catalysis was completed at Imperial College London.

In 2006 he made a postdoctoral stay at the Institut de Ciència de Materials de Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC) (CSIC), where he was introduced to the field of carboranes under the supervision of Prof. Francesc Teixidor.

In 2009 he got a permanent position at the University of Santiago de Compostela. He is currently working at the Centro de Investigación en Química Biológica y Materiales (CIQUS-USC) on carborane coordination chemistry.
