The European Research Council (ERC) has announced the results of its 2025 Consolidator Grant call, selecting two projects led by Julián Bergueiro and Sara Abalde-Cela for funding. With these new awards, CiQUS now reaches 17 ERC-funded projects, strengthening its position among Europe’s leading centres in chemistry and materials science.
These CiQUS' grants have already benefited more than 40 researchers, enabling them to conduct stays in laboratories across Europe and open new lines of research.
The CiQUS scientist has been honoured for his pioneering work introducing metal-catalysed reactions into living cells. He received the award from the King Felipe VI during a ceremony held today at the Lonja de los Mercaderes in Valencia.
CiQUS opened its laboratories to the public on November 8th, welcoming over 260 visitors to its "Ciencia Singular" open day event. The overwhelming response saw all available spots fill within minutes of registration opening, demonstrating strong public interest in scientific research.
A team led by Martín Fañanás at CiQUS have developed an iron-based catalyst that tames the reactivity of methane, paving the way for natural gas to become a sustainable raw material for high-value chemicals, including pharmaceuticals.
