Two new papers in Angewandte Chemie Int. Ed. by Professors C. Saá and J. A. Varela

13/05/2014

The CIQUS research group Organometallic Catalysis lead by Professors C. Saá and J. A. Varela, has published in Angewandte Chemie International Edition a new, efficient and direct approach to difunctionalized dihydropyrans, a convenient precursors of bioactive pyrans, which area used by pharmeceutical industry. The new reaction is based on the cyclization of alkynals and alkynones through catalytic Ru-carbenes. This work was performed by Fermín Cambeiro, PhD student in the research group, in collaboration with Dr. Susana López.

Recently, the same research group has also published also in Angewandte Chemie International Edition a new synthetic route to dihydrobiphenylenes, actractive molecular precursors for isomeric graphene nanostructures. This work was performed by the post-doctoral researchers of the group Dr. Silvia García and Dr. Carlos González, in collaboration with Dr. Cristina García and Prof. Miguel A. Esteruelas from the Universidad de Zaragoza.
