Felix Freire, Principal Investigator at the Center for Research in Biological Chemistry and Molecular Materials (CiQUS), has been awarded the José Barluenga Medal by GEQOR – Grupo Especializado de Química Orgánica. The Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry´s organic chemistry specialized group thereby honours an excellent ongoing career with a significant leap in quality and excellence after an initial stage of intependent research.
Prof. Freire research is focused on helical polymers, determining the relationship between monomer and the helical structure adopted by its corresponding polymer, the study of different chiral amplification mechanisms, and the formation of chiral nanostructures.
The GEQOR awards three different medals every year in recognition of its members´ careers. Among the laureates this year we also found Pedro Merino Filella from the University of Zaragoza (Medalla Félix Serratosa) and Manuel Alcarazo Velasco from University of Göttingen (Medalla Ignacio Ribas). The Committee members in the last edition were Rosario Fernández (President of GEQOR), Miquel Pericás, Juan Carlos Carretero, Uwe Pischel and José Alemán.
This is the sixth time that a CiQUS member has received a GEQOR award: Concepción González Bello (2021), Diego Peña (2018), Juan R. Granja (2014), Ricardo Riguera (2013) and Carlos Saa (2012) were awarded GEQOR medals in previous editions.
