The Specialized Group in Organic Chemistry (GEQOR) has awarded the Fèlix Serratosa Medal 2024 to Dr. Juan R. Granja, principal researcher at the Center for Research in Biological Chemistry and Molecular Materials (CiQUS). The group of the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry (RSEQ) thus recognizes his outstanding scientific career and contributions in the field of supramolecular chemistry and peptide chemistry.
Prof. Granja has made significant advances in the design and synthesis of complex molecular structures, as well as in the development of new nanomaterials with applications in biomedicine and nanotechnology, being a pioneer in the development of supramolecular nanotubes and their application to ion channel models. In addition to Dr. Granja, the other awardees in this edition of the GEQOR Medals are Dr. Belén Martín Matute from the University of Stockholm (Ignacio Ribas Medal) and Dr. Francisco Corzana López from the University of La Rioja (José Barluenga Medal)..
The awarding of these prestigious accolades highlights GEQOR's commitment to excellence in chemical research. This recognition marks the seventh occasion that a CiQUS researcher has received one of these distinguished medals, joining other awardees such as Félix Freire (José Barluenga Medal 2023), Concepción González Bello (Ignacio Ribas Medal 2021), Diego Peña (Ignacio Ribas Medal 2018), Ricardo Riguera (Félix Serratosa Medal 2013), and Carlos Sáa (Ignacio Ribas Medal 2012). Additionally, Juan R. Granja himself received the Ignacio Ribas Medal in 2014.
