CiQUS resumes its lecture programme, now online

19/06/2020

Yesterday, CiQUS resumed its series of lectures, transforming the in-person programme into a virtual event to adapt to the current situation brought about by the COVID-19 health crisis. The Centre is launching this new stage with the lecture given yesterday by Professor Samuel H Gellman, from the Department of Chemistry at the University of Wisconsin, titled “Extrapolating from Proteins”.

Professor Gellman is the principal investigator of the Gellman Group, which focuses its research on the design, synthesis and evaluation of new types of molecules intended to display interesting structures and useful functions. In addition, researchers of the group seek to understand how proteins perform their natural functions.

His lecture is one of a series of talks by prominent researchers who have already taken part in the CiQUS lecture cycle, such as Professor Luis Echegoyen (President of the American Chemical Society), Professor Jean-Pierre Sauvage (winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2016), Professor Janine Cossy (member of the French Academy of Sciences), Professor Ben L Feringa (winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2016), or Professor Richard Schrock (winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2005), to name just some of the speakers who have participated in this programme over the years.
