Prof. Ricardo Riguera Vega has been awarded the Félix Serratosa Medal by the Organic Chemistry Specialist Group (Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry), in recognition of his "particularly prominent career in the national and international Organic Chemistry". The official presentation will take place during the Biennial Meeting of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry in Santander, September, 15th to 18th.
Prof. Riguera, who currently leads a highly competitive research group at the Center for Research in Biological Chemistry and Molecular Materials (CIQUS), has published more than 200 articles in prestigious scientific journals, several patents and book chapters. He has also been advisor in 23 PhD Thesis and principal investigator of numerous research projects.
After a successful career in the field of marine natural products in the decades of the 80-90, Prof. Riguera subsequently worked on the development of methods based on nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), for the determination of the absolute configuration of chiral compounds. In that research field, his group is recognized as an international leader.
His current research is focused on the development of polymer nanostructures for biomedical applications and in the design of dynamic polymers stimulus-response applications. Both research lines are developed with his group in the CIQUS and their results have been published in scientific journals of greatest impact in the area of chemistry.
