ChemBio&Mat Master's Program Celebrates 2024/2025 Academic Year Closing Ceremony

21/07/2025

The Center for Research in Biological Chemistry and Molecular Materials (CiQUS) hosted on Friday the closing ceremony of the 2024/2025 academic year for its Master's in Chemistry at the Biology-Materials Science Interface (ChemBio&Mat), a graduate program of the University of Santiago de Compostela designed to train researchers in frontier areas bridging chemistry, biology, and materials science.

The event featured two main activities showcasing the program's scientific excellence. First, students presented their Introductory Research Projects in a dynamic poster session, highlighting work developed within CiQUS research groups. Notable projects included antimicrobial cyclic peptide nanotubes, photophysical studies of ruthenium complexes for click chemistry reactions, and lipid nanoparticles for controlled mRNA delivery – all sparking engaging discussions among attendees.

The ceremony culminated with a keynote lecture by Prof. Luisa De Cola from the University of Milan and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany). Titled "Smart Hybrid Nanomaterials for Biomedical Applications", her presentation showcased breakthrough research in targeted drug delivery systems, particularly innovative approaches using extracellular vesicles for precision cancer therapies.

An International Cutting-Edge Program

Taught entirely in English, the ChemBio&Mat Master's provides advanced training in experimental and computational techniques. Students benefit from hands-on research experience in CiQUS laboratories under the supervision of leading scientists.

This year's cohort includes students with diverse academic backgrounds and international profiles, enriching the program's global perspective. Having completed this academic phase, participants now prepare for the program's final research project – a capstone experience developing original scientific work.
