Felix Freire was the winner in the category "POSTDOC" to the best scientific publication in 2012, and two of the three finalists in the same category are also linked to CIQUS. Furthermore, a recent CIQUS PhD. was a finalist in the category of "PREDOC"..

Félix Freire Iribarne, a Ramón y Cajal researcher belonging to CIQUS, was the winner of V SUSCHEM award in the category of POSTDOC, for young researchers under 40 years in the field of chemistry.

The winning research (http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/ja3061112) entitled “Nanospheres with tuneable size and chirality from helical polymer-metal complexes”, had been not only selected as front cover on the prestigious journal Journal of the American Chemical Society, but also ranked as one of the most prominent among those recently published. This work was developed in the Research Group of Ricardo Riguera Emilio Quiñoá and José Manuel Seco.

Also, in this same category the jury has declared three finalists and two of them also belonging to CIQUS. The first is  José Miguel Alonso Gómez for his research “[16]Cloverphene: a Clover-Shaped cata-Condensed Nanographene with Sixteen Fused Benzene Rings”, under supervision of CIQUS researchers Diego Peña, Enrique Guitián and Dolores Pérez, and pùblished in the journal Angewandte Chemie. The other finalist is Rebeca Gardía Fandiño, a Juan de la Cierva researcher with Prof. Juan Granja at the CIQUS, for her work “Designing biomimetic pores on carbon nanotubes”, una ccollaboration between the universities of Oxford and A Coruña, which it was published in the journal PNAS (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences).

Moreover, Alejandro Criado recently doctorate in CIQUS, under the direcition of Enrique Guitián and Diego Peña, has been declared a finalist in the category of PREDOC, for the paper entitled “Bond-Order Discrimination by Atomic Force Microscopy”, which it was chosen as cover of the journal SCIENCE last September.

SUSCHEM Awards, convened by the Spanish Technology Platform for Sustainable Chemistry, intended to give public recognition to the work of young researchers under 40 years in the field of Chemistry in Spain and also to support, promote and encourage scientific and informational activity between young researchers.

Since 2009, these awards are sponsored by the Chemistry and Society Forum, the Young Investigators Group Specialised Chemicals Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (JIQ), the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (RSEQ), the National Association of Chemical Spain (ANQUE), the General Council of Chemists of Spain (CGCQ) and the Business Federation of Spanish Chemical Industry.
