Professor Paul Tavan (Ludwig Maximilian Universität München) will stay two days at CIQUS, for both giving a lecture titled “Conformational changes in BLUF domains” and meeting with some research groups. This activity is a part of the lecture´s program “Frontiers in Science”, organized by the Campus Vida’s Research Centers.
On October 10th, Prof. Tavan will present a theoretical analysis of the vibrational spectra of the flavin chromophore by applying density functional theory (DFT) to the Flavin embedded in molecular mechanics (MM) models of its protein and solvent environment.
Next day, October 11th, CIQUS will host a Physical-Chemistry seminar where Prof. Tavan and CIQUS´s researchers will explain and discuss about their last studies.
Prof. Paul Tavan studied physics at the University of Würzburg (Germany). He obtained in 1978 his PhD at the Max-Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Göttingen and the University Gottingen. He performed post-doctoral studies in Göttingen, Freie Universität Berlin, Cornell University (USA). He defended his habilitation in 1988 and founded the Theoretical Biophysics Group at Technische Universität München, where he has been Professor since 1993.
