The Center for Research in Biological Chemistry and Molecular Materials (CiQUS) has achieved outstanding success in the Marie Sklodowska Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships 2023 call (MSCA PF): 6 new fellows awarded with the MSCA PF will soon join CiQUS to run their research projects over the next two years. Such a great performance highlights CiQUS's ability to recruit top-level postdoctoral talent worldwide. Moreover, this new success has significantly contributed to rank the University of Santiago de Compostela as the leader of spanish universities in number of funded projects (9), together with the University of Granada.
With a total endowment of more than 1 M EUR, these grants reinforce different priority research lines at CiQUS. In the area of functional materials, the projects of Iago Pozo and Ana Rita Monteiro will focus on the synthesis of functional graphene nanostructures with new applications; Marilyn DMello and Satendra Kumar will focus their efforts on new electrodes for the development of more efficient batteries. In the area of biological chemistry, Andrés Cruz and de Reza Taheri will explore the potential of DNA nanotechnology to conduct new diagnostic tools and therapeutic strategies to combat cancer.
The Marie Sklodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships remain among the most competitive and renowned in Europe. The goal is to enhance the creative and innovative potential of researchers holding a PhD who wish to acquire new skills through advanced training, international, interdisciplinary and intersectoral mobility. The CiQUS has been committed to this programme for years, attracting young talent from both Spain and abroad. Not surprisingly, it ranks first in Galicia in terms of the number of researchers incorporated under the MSCA actions. Out of the 14 projects the CiQUS has awarded in the last three years, 10 are led by beneficiaries from other countries, including India, Iran, Colombia, Guatemala and Portugal.
