On Friday, September 27th, the Center for Research in Biological Chemistry and Molecular Materials (CiQUS) will once again be one of the protagonists of G-Night, an event that is part of the European Researchers' Night and is celebrated simultaneously across Europe. This event, which in Galicia will be held under the theme "Conciencias Creativas", aims to bring scientific research closer to the public and inspire vocations among young people.
Activities will begin at 6:00 pm in the Claustro do Colexio Fonseca, in Santiago de Compostela. The CiQUS team has prepared a series of activities that promise to capture the attention of both children and adults alike. The youngest ones can participate in a fun workshop to understand what a polymerization reaction is while building their own colorful bouncy ball. CiQUS researchers backed by the prestigious European Marie-Sklodowska Curie Actions (MSCA Fellows) program will also be present. They will show us, in an entertaining and educational way, how to build molecular puzzles using benzene rings and porphyrins, to understand some of their optoelectronic properties and how they can be used in electronic devices, such as environmental sensors. We will also learn how DNA molecules can be manipulated like paper origami, but in this case forming complex nanostructures with various biological functions.
Throughout the day, attendees can also enjoy a wide range of activities and proposals from the various research centers of the USC, who will be present at the event with a varied offer of workshops and scientific demonstrations. This fourth consecutive participation in G-Night reinforces the centers' commitment to scientific outreach and to building bridges between science and society.
