A look into the future: students from all over Galicia dive into research at CiQUS

In October, nearly 300 high school students from all over Galicia visited CiQUS to get an insider’s view of the fascinating world of scientific research. As in previous years, CiQUS opened its doors to young people, inviting them into a leading research environment where they could learn about the frontiers of science directly from the experts.

This year, CiQUS welcomed students from schools such as IES O Carril, Aquis Celenis, Punta Candieira, Cacheiras, Beade, Ordes, Antonio Fraguas, CPR Plurilingüe SEI San Narciso, and Pontepedriña. Filled with enthusiasm and curiosity, the students explored the center’s facilities and learned about the latest advances in fields like biological chemistry and molecular materials. The visit offered a rich experience: after a warm welcome, students toured several labs and workspaces, seeing researchers in action and observing advanced techniques up close.

CiQUS research groups had also organized hands-on activities and demonstrations to spark curiosity and inspire students’ interest in science. These activities provided a practical learning experience that offered a glimpse into the everyday work of CiQUS labs. The program concluded with a conversation led by a postdoctoral researcher, where students could hear about the motivations and challenges of a research career and ask questions at this pivotal moment in their own education.

With more than 60 researchers and technicians involved, the success of this year’s program once again highlighted the strong enthusiasm from both students and schools.
